My father was a massive music lover and raised us on classic rock. When I hit my teenage years I, like a lot of LA teens growing up in the 90's / grunge era, went through a "Doors" stage... where I was obsessed with Jim Morrison and The Doors. Most of my photographs from my senior year in high school have me wearing some shirt with Jim's gorgeous face on it.
Well fast forward some...errr...*cough* ...25 years later and my 5 year old son is a mini Jim. Thanks in part to his massive thick curly hair, light colored eyes (my son's are green), and crazy rock star persona. So it was only natural I would want to do a Jim Morrison-themed photo shoot with him. Other child photographer moms with cute little girls get to dress their daughters in frilly princess dresses for photos...I do rock n roll!
From Venice Beach to The Whisky in Hollywood, we hit up some of the most iconic LA spots in The Doors music history for a Jim Morrison-inspired photography shoot throughout Los Angeles.
And thanks to a great friend, we were also given the incredible opportunity to shoot inside Sunset Sound, the world famous recording studio where The Doors recorded their first two albums. My son sang his little heart out in the very same room Jim Morrison and The Doors recorded "Light My Fire," "Break On Through (To the Other Side)" and "The End."
Here are a few of my favorite images from this fun series.
